In the new concept of Spaces and Pages, there are primarily 4 key elements:

• SPACE
  • Defines the navigation structure and provides the overall context for the displayed content.
  •  Space consists of Pages (to understand this can be compared to Groups)
• PAGE
  • Contains apps for a business role, grouped in sections to guide users through work contexts.
  • Pages consists of single or multiple Sections
• SECTION
  • Section consists of single or multiple Tiles.
• TILE
  • Tile is used to launch the respective application.

Following are the best practices for structuring spaces and pages:

• 1 space per role
• 1-5 pages per space
• 2-5 sections per page
• 3-7 apps per section, but ideally not more than 25 apps for the whole page

Motivation to use Spaces and Pages!

From SAP S/4HANA 2021 onwards, the current concept of Groups is deprecated. 

This means that Groups will continue to exist, but all the latest innovation and support will only be available for the new concept of ‘Spaces and Pages’ and Groups will eventually die out in future releases.

Hence it is essential for us to plan to migrate towards ‘Spaces and Pages’.

Spaces and pages preserve the best of the older Groups layout mode, such as:

• Users can personalize their pages, including whether tiles are displayed as tiles or links.
  • Pages provide even more tile visualization options such as flat tiles, wide tiles, and flat wide tiles.
• Users can have a favorite “My Home” page for their most preferred tiles.

Spaces and pages offer significant advantages over groups such as:

• They are easier to understand for both the business users and administrators.
• They are easier to maintain and manage over time.
• You can distribute the effort of maintaining layouts, for example to your key users, your business process experts, or a central process governance team.
• Any changes to your pages are automatically merged with the users personalization of those pages.
• They align more easily and clearly to the launchpad content of the business role (whether SAP or custom business role)
• For those customers in regulated industries with strict business process requirements, spaces and pages are even easier to map to your business process hierarchy.
• Loading time of Fiori Launchpad is considerably reduced by using Spaces and Pages over Groups.
